Designing Compelling Product Experiences from Multiple Perspectives

I'm Brian Huang, a product designer combining UI/UX design, product thinking, and an engineering background.

I moved into product design from mechanical engineering — first as a project manager in electronics ODM manufacturing, then into UI/UX at startups and B2B teams. That path taught me to sit between engineering and users: translating user needs into specs engineers can act on, and translating technical constraints back into design decisions. To me, design is not simply about making screens look better; it is about working with POs/PMs and stakeholders to clarify the problem and converge on a direction, turning complex needs and constraints into experiences that are clear, intuitive, and feasible.

I have contributed to a B2B AI energy management platform, a quantitative trading product, and a Web3 service, building experience across user research and interviews, competitive analysis, interface and interaction design, design systems, prototyping, and cross-functional collaboration. I also bring AI tools into design, front-end prototyping, and product spec work to frame problems, design MVPs, and validate business goals against user experience, as I grow toward becoming a Product Builder.

UI/UX Design Intern

2024.06 - 2024.08

  • Guided by the PM and a full-time designer, I worked with another design intern to turn predefined GenAI requirements into proactive decision-support concepts through competitive analysis, user interviews, and feature design — addressing a platform where the data was complete but the priorities were not.
  • Ran the Early Design Campaign's kickoff, midterm, and final POC reviews within 2.5 months and presented results to the CEO; I owned the wireframes, interaction flows, and prototypes for overage alerts and pattern recognition.
  • Both design concepts — overage alerts and pattern recognition — were accepted for further planning; I provided research insights and design proposals for PM prioritization, with backend implementation of overage alerts underway before the internship ended.

UI/UX & PM Intern

2023.03 - 2023.10

  • Designed and shipped three core trading flows so users no longer had to return to the exchange to intervene manually and risk breaking their own strategies; in internal testing, average task time fell from 65 to about 27 seconds — a 58% reduction.
  • Reorganized the existing Figma design system across 20+ user flows, aligned naming with the front-end Storybook glossary, and annotated reusable components in handoff files so design and engineering could map directly to existing implementations.
  • Delivered tablet and mobile designs for 20+ existing desktop pages and shipped them, closing the cross-device gaps left by the product's early desktop-first development.
  • Served as assistant PO on an eight-engineer, biweekly Scrum team — prioritized user feedback and coordinated the UI team in shipping 6+ features; completed tickets per Sprint rose about 44% on average.

Product Designer (Contract)

2022.11 - 2023.02

  • Led user research and wireframing for a DID digital credential platform. When participants turned out to have no real experience with digital credentials, I shifted the interview guide from feature-level questions to exploratory research, probing decision concerns and execution barriers instead.
  • Ran 9 role-based interviews across issuers, applicants, and verifiers, which corrected the team's assumption: verification was a value-add rather than a must-have, narrowing the product positioning.
  • Collaborated with product managers and Cathay Financial Holdings' technology team to align product requirements, development direction, and UX within compliance constraints.
  • Delivered wireframes and Figma interactive prototypes to support usability testing and multiple rounds of design iteration, completing an end-to-end flow walkthrough.

Assistant Project Manager

2021.05 - 2021.12

  • Coordinated engineers, suppliers, and cross-functional schedules, pre-checking test units, material needs, and delivery timing to provide test materials ~1.5 weeks ahead of scheduled engineering testing.
  • Across two milestones, coordinated alternate suppliers and delivery schedules when test materials ran short, so engineers received the materials and testing proceeded on time.
